First Tomatoes!
Have you figured out yet that I am crazy for tomatoes!
In my post last Tuesday, I gave an update on their progress and mentioned that I was already fortunate enough to harvest some from my Patio hybrid.
The top picture was taken about a week and a half ago, and the tomatoes are long gone -- and were delicious, I might add. There were three all together. Two were sliced and served with a homemade vinaigrette and feta cheese, then sprinkled with some fresh thyme. The remaining one became part of a BLT sandwich. Yum!
My Patio tomato is typically the first to produce, and it will just keep producing throughout the summer! Currently, there are six green tomatoes on the vine (OK -- this might be stretching it...two are really, really small) and fifteen flowers (I counted, no exaggeration!). I only planted one this year instead of my usual two...I might need to go out and buy another one!

You win the early tomato contest for sure. Mine are just now needing supports and only in flower. Soon, I hope soon. Store bought just isn't the same.
ReplyDeleteWhat helps with this one is that they typically already have one or two green tomatoes on them when I buy them -- so, it's a bit like cheating...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Islandgardener! We usually have our first tomatoes in July here in the Pacific NW. I'm gaining more respect for Patio T. Somehow, never took it seriously. I'll try it next year.

ReplyDeleteAnd there I am being delighted that I have a minute cherry tomato on one of my plants! Yours are wonderful and I'm envious as it will be weeks before mine look like that! Val
ReplyDeleteOh how I long for my first ripe tomato! I just detest eating the flavourless supermarket tomatoes. You have made me hungry now, I serve my fresh beefsteak tomatoes in thick slices with the best olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and black pepper, fresh basil leaves and slices of buffalo mozzarella! Ahhhhh
ReplyDeleteWow, tomatoes in June is great! No signs of them here yet, just blooms. :) I do have a green bell pepper that will be ready to pick in a few days though.
ReplyDeleteWe have couple green tomatoes, probably needs to wait 2 more weeks. I just harvest lots of berries though.

ReplyDeleteLovely tomatoes! BLT sandwiches are my favorite. They just taste soooo much better with fresh tomatoes from the garden.

Yummy! Can't wait until we are ready to harvest our tomatoes. We've got flowers on them so at least we are headed in the right direction. -Jackie
